Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has lifted the veil of silence in a remarkably open and frank body of interviews regarding the bitterly hard times that followed his divorce with dancer Dhanashree Verma in March 2025. The leg-spinner has come out to talk about how he struggles with severe depression, to talk about the constant dating rumours, and to state that he is now in a healthier and progressive stage of his life.
A Dark Chapter: Mental Health Crisis After Divorce
According to Chahal, the few months after his divorce were one of the most difficult periods of his life. It was during this period that his mental state was badly impacted. He disclosed that he was disabled with anxiety, panic as well as depression. His body symptoms were so severe that they influenced his career.
Chahal explained that his mind was not in the right state. He explained how his hands would shake. His face would go numb and he would even lose consciousness. Emotional pain was so large that he confessed that he had suicidal thoughts, cried for four hours a day, and lived on as little as two hours of sleep for 40 days. This battle caused him to fail in various big cricket competitions last year as he was working on his recovery.
Setting the Record Straight: I am Happy to Be Single
During his personal healing process, Chahal was in the middle of a dating scandal, the most prominent one being the Radio Jockey and actor RJ Mahvash. Their cricketing and dinner videos in their company caused a lot of speculation. Chahal came out strongly to respond to these rumours, terming them as baseless, in stating that Mahvash is merely a close familiarity.
I am gladly single, I replied to Chahal. He was unhappy with what he called cheap things posted about Mahvash on the internet and pointed out that he is not seeking a relationship at this moment. He even told a light-hearted story of how he briefly tried the exclusive celebrity dating app Raya only to delete it shortly after he said he did not really get the concept of dating apps.
Discovering the Strength and Moving Forward
Chahal attributed two pillars that assisted him out of the dark period, which included regular therapy sessions as well as the strong support of his mentor, Aniruddh Singh, a Haryana resident. I would tell him everything. A robust support system is terribly important because it assisted me tremendously in coming out of the phase, as Chahal said.
As to the closed book of his marital relationship with Dhanashree Verma, Chahal had a mature attitude, wishing that she could succeed, but stating that his relationship had been closed in the emotional aspect. He also talked about the ability to build resilience against the trolling that is an inevitability of his life in the public eye. He who desires to troll shall troll all. It is not about me, he replied, and such a comment does not hurt him so much anymore.
However, since his personal issues are but a thing of the past, Yuzvendra Chahal claims to be a lot better in his head. He has squarely turned his attention back to personal development and his game. His candour in sharing his mental health struggle has showed a sensitive, human aspect that is obscured by the glitz of being a sports star, a promise of a powerful and promising recovery, both in and out of the field.
