Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy’s journey has two phases — his business career and his political career. He later participated in the construction industry after he had finished with his education and eventually expanded his business to irrigation and property. His businessman image had spread fast, and he had multiple projects that were going on in India.
His political career began to take shape in the 1970s when he became the student union president of SV University in 1974.. He had initially contested MLA seat in 1978 as a candidate of the Janata Party but lost. He later joined the Indian National Congress and was defeated in electoral campaigns in 1985 and 1994, however, he was elected to the assembly in 1989, 1999, and 2004 as a member of the Pileru constituency.
Between 1995 and 2004, he was the Chittoor district Congress president and in 2008, he was made the vice-president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC). He was made a Forest Minister in 2012 after winning a successful contestation after defeating the Punganur in 2009. After changes in politics and rifts in Congress, in 2013, he left the party and joined the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).
Since then, Reddy has been a top figure in YSRCP and was easily elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly in 2014 and 2019 with massive majorities in Punganur. He was made Minister of Panchayat Raj, Rural Development, Mines, and Geology in the year 2019. In April 2022, he assumed the office as Minister of Energy, Forest, Environment, Science and Technology, Mines, and Geology.
